In the area where you live, are there a lot of careless drivers? Fortunately I haven't come across many where I'm at but when I've visited some of the less developed countries, it's pretty scary how some of those people drive.

Traffic in India for example is ridiculous, apparently fender benders and other minor incidents are normal there. People in the U.S. would flip if someone carelessly scratched their car like that although there are some jerks out there who are inconsiderate especially in parking lots...

I see careless drivers all the time. But I have heard something about traffic in India but have never experienced it.

From everything I have read and seen on India it does not surprise me they have so many fender benders and minor incidents. Where I live there are a lot of new drivers, who like to mess with the radio and do their make up when driving. I hate it

I was rear ended, when I was 21, by a driver that was driving too fast and playing with the stereo.

I live in Dalllas, Tx. Of course there's reckless drivers!! A ton!! Earlier today I was almost T-Boned by a little talking on her cell because she didn't noticed the light was red. Her car must have skidded about 10 to 15 feet before coming to a stop. Luckily I heard the tired screaming and stopped. You always have to be on your toes around here. No telling when another idiot is going to ruin your day.

It's a small town so thankfully there aren't too many here. There was one driver though - stupid as all hell. Going to Church there's only one road from our house, and there's a huge drop on one side (no guard rails) and on the other side (the side we're on) there was a steep heel. The road was carved into a hill you see so that's all solid rock. Anyways to get to the point, it's a no-passing lane as it obviously should be, and some moron came barreling down in his truck toward us with a fire engine on his right. So he couldn't merge back into his lane. He came within a few feet of hitting us head on before he swerved to his left and thankfully was able to drive on the side of the hill causing a good number of rocks to hit the Suburban.

We just stopped, and the entire family was just sitting there, shaking. Did the guy stop to check up on us? Did the firefighters even check up on us? Nope.

And thankfully that's the most (and basically the only) careless driver we've seen around here thus far.

All of the accidents that I've been in were the result of someone doing something that they just didn't have to do and with a little more prudence, they'd still have low insurance rates, I'd have less injuries and my car. I also spent a couple of years as an auto insurance adjuster and I'm pretty sure that I've heard almost every story there is, from both sides of the accident and I promise, maybe 5% of them were unavoidable or truly freak.

I bet you would have a lot of stories being an insurance adjuster.

My best advice to anyone: no matter how old your car is, you need to have some kind of real insurance on your car and yourself through your auto insurance. Don't drop down to the minimums trying to save money. It's not always about how you drive, it's about how the other person drives and if they don't have insurance or their company is stalling you out, you could find yourself in a mighty bad way.

I agree. I was on another forum and the owners had that happen to them. It wasn't good. Here you have to have insurance.

Go to New York. Okay, it's probably not the same, but it really is surprising at how horrible those drivers are. Mostly because it's taxi drivers. Hey now, not to be prejudice or anything.. but maybe that has something to do with it. A large population of cabbies, as you may know from movie stereotypes, is actually Indian (the country, not native Americans).

Haha, I had a wreck not too long after I had my license because college students do not know how to drive/park. It was ugly. My only other wreck was caused by a really wet road and a bad part on a new car. I see careless drivers here ALL the time. People who do not pay attention to the lights or the speed. People who cut you off. I am not usually the one who does the driving. My fiance has a better response time and a lot more experience driving than I do. Right now I am expecting a child. So he feels it is his protective need to do the driving, haha. :p

Probably the best quote I'll have from this forum all week, LOL.

That is so true. The parking lot at my university is just abhorrent. Especially considering the fact that for most of the students, the parents pay for their car/tuition/everything. This gives them no respect for their own car, so they let it just hang out into other spaces and not care...

You know, it is partly the university to blame for the parking situation. I have had people who do research on the parking permits, etc. They sell three times the number of parking spaces in permits because they feel that it will cover the fact that all students are not on campus at all times. Yet, based on their logic... I could never find a place to park. :p

At my university, there is not NEARLY enough parking spots. The student population is 35,000, a majority of who are commuter students. There are only two, YES TWO, parking garages. Along with various lots that are REALLY far away. It's not very fun. They even put signs on the grass "no parking" and give you tickets. They just want more money...

I love how most universities claim to be a "big" commuting school, but then they throw logic like that at you. But yeah, I completely agree. I really think that college is more about draining your wallet than giving you an education. If they cared less about their wallets, more people would go to college.

I was watching CBS sunday morning show, and they were talking about how some figureheads believe that for the average person, a college education is no longer WORTH what it COSTS to even get one. That sucks a lot considering I'm in University as we speak...

I WAS at the University. I think it is probably going to just end up being a wasted three years and chunk of money. I am having a child now, so I do not see myself going back to the University for a while. But, yeah... It is supposed to be incredibly hard for college students to get jobs as well as anyone else at the moment. You would think us having to put so much money and effort into... It would pay out in the end. Unfortunately, it is becoming less and less the case. I know lots of people who have made a pretty decent living for themselves... They have no job at all.

This very true. At one time or another, I was considering going to medical school and becoming a physician. These days, I am more focused into putting my effort into the internet. It is not an easy task to make a stable income from the internet, but it is possible. I want to be able to be free and be my own boss.
