I always wear a seat belt. I feel out of place if I don't have one on since I have been wearing one for so long. I don't want to lose a cent of my money to a fine like that. How big were your fines?

In my place (Kerala, India) the fine for not wearing seat belt is just Rs 100, ie $ 2. Nowadays Indian money is declining against dollar and today $ 2 equal to Rs 120. The fine for not wearing helmet while driving bikes is Rs 500.

That is all you pay? In Nova Scotia it is about $157.50 Canadian (8984.45 RS). If it was that cheap here then I would be one of the few to still wear it.

OMG! That's too much for us. If the fine is that much high then I would never drive car without wearing seat belt.

I always wear a seat belt. I just made it a habit a long time ago to the point where I don't even have to think about it.

What I absolutely hate is when people that are riding with you, or you're riding with them, feel the need to inform you that you should put your seat belt on! If you don't put it on as soon as they think you should, you get the comment. My sister does this to the point where I can only call it some kind of mental defect (sorry Sis). Here's an example. She's driving her own car and I get it in. We're in a residential neighborhood. Sometimes she'll sit there waiting for me to put the belt on before she even puts the car into gear! Now, I can understand this if you're dealing with a child and you're trying to train them, but give me a break! I feel like I have to play beat the clock whenever I get into her car so I don't have to hear a comment as if I wouldn't have put it on without being told. It burns me up because no matter what you say about how you always wear your seat belt, in her mind she thinks that she had to tell you to do it. Sigh.

Wow, I wonder how long I've been waiting to get that off my chest? :D I love you, Sis, but shut up about the seat belt already. I get it.

LOL. That is the whole point of the fine. To encourage people to use it, and if not make them think about using it after they get caught. $2 would do nothing, Its about $15 for most parking tickets so $2 for a seat belt fine wouldn't end make people bat an eye. But I think we also lose two points on our license so it is a big fine for not wearing it.

Sometimes if I'm in a rush, I'll start of without wearing it but I will always put it on by by pulling with my left arm and strapping in (right hand drive here). It's definitely not worth paying a fine for just like overstaying in a free time limited supermarket car park.

Yes I wear seatbelts, but only when the car is stuck in traffic and there is a nearby policeman manning the traffic lights. Then after we are past that area, I remove the seatbelt again because it's a bit uncomfortable.

If I am backing into a parking space I sometimes release the belt. But if
I am on a street or highway, yeah it is buckled up. Seatbelt doesn't bother me
and it is pretty well habit as well. I would buckle up even if it was not a fine
    for violations.

I always wear a seat belt, "safety first" I guess. This habit got reinforced after I saw a car roll over multiple times on the highway. I would would like to minimize the chance of getting ejected from a car, just my 2 cents.

    Welcome to Gearhead Central.

I agree. I know two guys that were ejected from cars in accidents. On had road rash and lumps on his head. The other was hit by a car and didn't make it. Its better to put on the belt.

I used to not wear a seatbelt a while ago. Now, it's just a habit or an instinct for me to put the seatbelt on. It's probably the first thing I do when I get in the car followed by adjusting my mirrors and such.

It's very uncommon for me not to wear a seatbelt, it's actually a bit natural for me to reach for the seatbelt whenever I sit down in a vehicle, no matter how far the distance is, I don't think I've ever not worn a seatbelt for longer than just going down the street to the minimart or to get the mail (being lazy) but I believe that's it. I suppose it's easier for me to do it without thinking due to the fact that I wont change my mirrors in the vehicle or make sure they're correct until I know I'm sitting normally in my seat which usually means I'm seatbelted.

I've always wear my seat belt and even driving in my neighborhood. The force of stopping and hitting is so great that you're risking your life if you don't wear it. There are so many people that died because they didn't wear seat belts. You should always wear them. There is a reason why you have to wear it. Its there to save your life. I know of many people who died this way by not wearing it. If it's not important it would not be there. You will be thrown out of your car if you don't wear it once you get into an accident. I think it's too risky to go without it. I hope that people always wear their seat belts.

I was taught to wear my seatbelt at a young age. So every time I get into a car I have a habit of putting on my seatbelt %90 of the time. I think seatbelts can save a lot of peoples lives, and keep them from being thrown out of a car. I don't understand why people don't like to wear their seatbelts.

Yes. I don't wanna die. My car also has airbags. The better I can protect myself, and ensure walking away from an accident not ruined for life, the happier I am.

I always do. I can't remember the last time I forgot to wear it. Ad whenever I ride along in the passenger seat, or in the back, I almost always extend the seatbelt fully, so it locks when released. It's automatic for me.

I just canNOT go without a seat-belt. I have to wear one, even if I am only driving down the street. I feel weird without it:yuck:. It is the first thing that I put on when I get into my car.

I don't even think about fines or anything like that, I don't even think about wearing a seat-belt for safety reasons, I just wear it because it has become such a habit for me. I bet my whole driving equilibrium would be off:confused: if I drove without my seat-belt on.

Wearing a seat-belt is one of those little but extremely important road-safety precepts one should never even question why it's necessary to abide by them. I've heard of people who forgot (or chose not to) wear their seat-belts, got themselves involved in an accident and unfortunately , lost their lives. It doesn't matter you are a good (and careful) driver or not, a careless driver could ram into you. Another motorist's brakes could fail. . .

To be on the safe-side therefore I always wear my seat-belt always.
