I'd like to know how old were you all when you started learning to drive :) In the place where I'm from it's very common for 14 years olds to start learning to drive at that age, I started to learn to drive when I was 15 years old. I had the best instructor: my mom. She's such a good driver... she's been driving for over 30 years and has never been involved in a car accident; a few minor scares here and there tho, but nothing big!

I started to learn how to drive when I was 16. I waited until I got my G1 (first drivers permit you can get in Ontario, Canada) before I went on the road, then I had some help learning how to drive manual from my dad and my friends' mom.

I started at 16 when I got my beginners license. I was operating construction equipment at 13.

It's highly uncommon for you to start driving before your learners permit here, which the minimal age for is 15 & a half, so most don't learn how to drive until that age. I started learning when I was 16, I was driving illegally until now, I've never been in a car crash nor pulled over, however, my instructor was my girlfriend at the time, not a relative to any sort, which means we were doing something really risky.

I started learning how to drive when I was 19 years old, I was influenced by my friends who were teaching each other how to drive because they already had cars that time.

I don't have my learner's permit yet, I have to wait until I'm 16 (2 more years!) I can't wait! The car that I'm going to be learning in is a 2013 Acura TL which is going to be pretty neat!

I'd be afraid to learn to drive in a new vehicle like that, I wasn't comfortable with driving anything over a 2008 until I was driving for at least 6 months, even now I'm a bit nervous when driving the newer vehicles, since they're more expensive & easier to damage. Just be careful & start learning in a parking lot & not on the main road until you learn how to control that 2013 Acura lol

I was maybe 16 years old. I got my learners permit pretty late cause back then I wasn't all about driving. Around 17 was when I first started driving on my own.

I started driving at 17 but it was a learning permit. I got my real license at 18. My uncle taught me how to drive and I was really nervous at first.

Ow, so the first car you ever drove was an automatic one then? I learnt on a manual one, took me long to get the hang of it, but in the end the extra effort really paid off :) I've only driven manual ones so far, wish I could try driving an automatic one; just to know what is like :roflmao:

Woah! You were operating construction equipment when you were just 13!?? I live in a place where kids as young as 10 are allowed and even encouraged to operate farming equipment, I'm talking about the menonite community that lives nearby :hungover:

You mean in the states? Over is here is quite common, I should have mentioned I don't live in the states :roflmao: I did a lot illegal driving back in the day, I was young and knew how to drive..., but I was lucky I wasn't involved in any sort of accident. How old was your gf back then , btw? I felt kinda curious when I read that your girlfriend was your instructor, I'm guessing she was the same age as you, as you said, that sounds very risky.

Awesome!!! That's a pretty sweet ride! I'm guessing you are in the states, if you lived here you would already be driving around the city :D Oh well... rules are rules, and they need to be followed. Otherwise we would fall into anarchy :roflmao: Btw, the car you are going to be learning in, is it a manual or an automatic one?

Well, I drove an automatic car once before I started driving manual. To be honest I really prefer manual, I fell like I have a lot more control and it's way more fun. The only good thing about autos are that "stop n' go" driving during rush hour isn't as annoying.

My father taught me how to drive, and we started when I was about 12 or so. He was a lineman, and drove a big one-ton line truck , and back in those days, it was ok for him to take me along with him to work in the summer when I was out of school. We were often out in the country on some pokey little dirt road, so he started letting me learn to drive the line truck. At first it was just the compound low (also called Granny Go Gear), and gradually I got the hang of using the clutch and shifting, and was so proud when I could drive all the way back out to the main highway.
When my kids were young, I started them off the same way driving an old pickup we used on the farm to haul water.

I know what you mean, a friend of mine also started driving a bit late. Still, 17 is not such a bad age to start driving! I wasn't too motivated to learn to drive at first, until my mom promised me that she'd let me drive her car to school every day ;)

Was it an automatic or manual one? Learning to drive at 17 is not bad at all, I think it's a great age :D I got my license when I was 18 as well, but by then I had been doing a lot driving on my own, I was lucky I was never caught or involved in an kind of accident!

Actually, yes, she was the same age as I, however, due to complications with my family, she had obtained her license when she was suppose to but I got my permit almost 2 years later than I should've. So she was teaching me how to drive since I wasn't able to obtain my permit or license at that time.

Woah, happyflowerlady! Way to go! I'm guessing you don't live in the US, right? I don't think they still let this kind of things happen over there. It's amazing you learnt to drive so young and that your father was your instructor. I think the younger you learn to drive the better :D

I didn't even get my permit until I was sixteen, and that's when I started driving. It's been about five months, and I still don't really drive much. I'm trying to get my fifty hours of driving in before school starts getting incredibly overbearing, because that'll really help me. :)
