Do you guys have any freeware installed on your computer and if you do what are they? I install free programs all the time and never bought any. Any freeware that you're using that you think is good?

Well I have Flashget, Utorrent, VLC player, Daemon Tools, Winrar, Adobe Reader, etc. I only install software that I need, I don't make it a point to install and compare several software that can do the same thing.

What's Flashget? Is it some software to download flash videos? I also use all the ones you mentioned except for Daemon Tools, I prefer to use Imgburn because it's completely free and can do many things.. By the way, what kind of antivirus are you using. I'm just using MS Security Essential and felt that it's not very capable.

I use AVG ever since, so I think you should give it a try, since I noticed that not all anti-virus software can pick up the exact same virus that the other software can detect. Flashget is a download manager, I just the downloaded the latest version, and it can now also download torrents, so no need for another torrent application.

Most of the software I need is provided by my organization, so not really downloaded much of Freewares. The risk of virus attack is too high for me to venture into freewares.

I used to do that some time back but most of them would revolve around games and videos.

Quite a few. There are some freeware apps out there that are better than any commercial counterparts I've come across.

Speaking of freeware, I did come across a rather eye opening article, that mentioned how some copies of Filezilla - a popular freeware FTP client - had been hacked and was stealing people's login credentials. While I don't think this was an issue with the copies available from the official web site, it seemed to be stemming from hackers who had mirrored infected copies on what looked like legitimate file hosting sites. I would be wary of downloading programs from third party sources, even if it is something like Softepedia or CNet, because you never know who is uploading them and if they are the original authors or not.

I love freeware. Freeware apps are usually these small, single function apps that you didn't even know you needed. They're wonderful. I have one that I use to find the approximate keys of songs and there are many others that seem insignificant but really make things a lot easier. And freeware text-to-speech programs are always fun.

Really? I used to use Limewire before I switched to using to using Torrents, so I guess I should now download files from the developer's site itself then.

Yeah, a lot of the freewares offered usually have viruses and worms in it but there are a lot more that are legit. I don't recommend downloading freewares from shady sites, I only download from reputable sources.
Yeah, I've heard of CNET files having virus nowadays so should avoid downloading from there too much. I mostly go to the source site for updates and patches.

Yup! I love freeware! But I'm always very careful with the freeware I download and install on my computer, because most of those freewares aren't really free. Most of them have some spyware and so on.

Yes, I do use freeware but my son usually takes care of that for me. He knows the perfect ones to choose which I know are free because we never ever talk about cost.
