That's a nice bike, but I have never ridden a motorcycle before, and I want to buy one. I know they are very dangerous but I think I am prepared.

Thanks. Taking a motorcycle safety course is a great idea. It will teach you some basics and get you some seat time.

It is a 2007. I live in Illinois, so the highways there tend to be a little busy and sometimes congested. I was once riding on it and had to stop many times because of traffic. Later on there was a lane merging on the highway and a car was coming in really fast. I didn't know what to do so I sped up a little, since then I haven't been on a highway since. This was like a year and a half ago.

Yeah, I agree that it's very important for motorcycle riders to wear protective gear whenever they ride a motorcycle to prevent accidents from happening.

Regarding the friend of my friend, thanks for the condolence. Yes, I heard that there were 3 of them riding the motorcycle. I haven't seen 3 people all at once riding a motorcycle, so it must look and feel really cramped for those riding in one.

I enjoyed the few times I did it, but honestly, everytime I hear of some celebrity or local person getting killed on a bike, it makes me doubt how much I really want to do it.

I have to agree that motorcycles are really dangerous to ride, especially on the roads of today which is always congested. When I was younger, the impression that motorcyclists gave me was that of being "cool" and "trendy". At one point, I was really yearning to learn how to ride though I was always turned down by my dad who drilled into my head the exact same sentiments shared by sidney's dad. To him, riding a bike is equivalent to "wrapping human flesh around metal" while driving a car is the other way around and he told me to think about which way was safer. He was a biker in his younger days and has gotten into accidents numerous times and I guess that is why he is so strongly against any one of my family members learning to ride. I have to agree with him because riding really is a risky business no matter how careful a rider you may be. The small size of the vehicle makes it prone to be missed by other motorists and just a simple swerve by them might cause you your life. Riding in wet conditions is also more dangerous as compared to driving simply because you're going on two wheels as compared to four and the lighter weight would make you prone to skidding. He once mentioned to me that it is not the act of skidding that actually kills the rider. It is the inability of the car behind you to stop in time to avoid going over your body that kills. I have to agree with him.

Motorcycles are just as dangerous as vehicles. People have died in both motorcycle and vehicle accidents. In my own view, I will not refuse having a power bike just because of the fear of accident. You just have to drive very carefully, look out for drunk drivers and wear your HELMET.

I rode many times in the rain. I rode in temps just above freezing. Yes it can be dangerous but riding is not a death sentence.

I think for the expert rider, it's not as dangerous for them because they already have a better handle in the motorcycle, like the pizza delivery guys for example, I'm sure they drive it around without feeling any fear. But for the non-riders, we are on the outside looking in, so to speak, so we are more cautious and fearful as compared to the expert riders.

Anyway, I was playing Grand Theft Auto Vice City earlier, and Tommy Vercetti was riding a motorcycle. It crashed into a car, and he went flying far in to the sky and landed a bit far from where his motorcycle was. He was still alive, of course, lol, his life hasn't been drained to zero, but I thought that if this happened in real life, Tommy would have already been dead. :roflmao:

I have been riding motorbikes since I was 12 and have yet to come across anything else like it. I understand the dangers, but choose to take them like anybody should be able to do. My father also used to race motorbikes (only club meetings) he raced a 400 RVF Honda NC-35, won a couple of local championships too :D

I love motorcycles! Yeah it is relatively dangerous if you look at it as a vehicle with two wheels and no side beams and airbags. But just as much as you need to comply to airbags and seatbelts, you also have to keep in mind what you need to do and have. like following speed limits, minding your surroundings, and purchasing certified gears like helmets, knee and elbow pads, padded jackets, riding shoes and back protector. If you follow that you will enjoy flying with no worries..

I do think motorcycles are cool, but I would agree that they are much ore dangerous. I personally don't really like riding them, I jut like to relax a bit more while driving. Not to sound like a bad driver, but I can drive my car without even having my hands on the wheel. You can't get that on a motorcycle, that level of relaxation while driving. Also, just the worry of being on a more dangerous vehicle, would lower the relaxation levels. With that being said, there is something that is just so awesome about a bike though. I also recall being stuck in a traffic jam one time, behind a huge accident. A guy on a motorcycle just drove past everybody, driving on the edge of the road. We were literally stuck there for hours, and this guy just drives by like nothing.

Some might not be able to relax. Most that can't I think would avoid riding completely. I was always looking for dangers like, cars, trucks, pot holes, people ready to dart across the street and so on. But I do that in my 5 ton work truck as well. When you start leaning through some nice turns you learn to enjoy the ride.

Some love bikes but don't think the traffic risks are worth it so they do track days where they get to ride on a race track. They are not racing but having an event on a race track. There they have less to worry and can enjoy the ride at higher speeds.

I once had the same opinion. Try it, you'll change your mind for sure. ;)
