I recently bought a used 1993 Honda civic coupe ex and it has over 190000km on it. The car runs good, but the rear quarter panels are rusted pretty badly on the outside and in the interior of the panels. I went to an auto body shop and they said it will cost me over $3000 for them to repair it. The question is will it be cheaper if I did the repairs myself? I can upload images if you'd like?

    Hey how is it going?

Yes please post the pics. If it is real bad it will be a lot of work. The front fenders can pre replaced fairly easy. In the rear it will be much harder. If it is real bad you might have to find one with decent rear quarters in a junk yard and cut them out. Then do the same to your bad ones and replace them with the replacements. Not an easy job.

You might be able to buy replacement panels but it will be a lot of work. Do you have access to a welder?

I still haven't done a lot of research on replacing quarter panels, and I don't have the equipment yet to do the repairs. I know I'll need to buy a welder, a grinder, a pick hammer, a dolly and a lot more other tools. I also have some basic knowledge of doing body work on a car, but this seems pretty advanced.

Yeah there is more work involved. Is the car worth the amount of work to you? Are you going to get it painted or will you do that as well?

That isn't as bad as I thought. If you can one in a yard with good rear quarters you might be able to get away with just doing those sections. How good is the rest of the metal in the rear quarters?

This is the only pick I have that leads to the back of the car, but everything else is fine. But I was thinking about just buying a newer car for the price to just replace a quarter panel or do an engine swap.
