I've been interested in motorcycles for years, but never got around to learning to ride. I was wondering if anyone around here had recommendations for a new rider about what kinds of bikes to look at. I realize that there are a lot of things to consider, of course, like how big a bike a person can actually manage. To that end, I should probably mention that I'm a woman, but a relatively tall one at 5'11", so I don't have as many concerns about being too short for a bike as some women might.

I tend to like sportier bikes rather than the cruiser sorts, although I really like some of the models that don't have fairings as well as those that do. For example, I love the design of the Moto Guzzi V11 Le Mans, though I suspect that's probably a bit too much of a bike for a new rider :)

    Hi Miz
I think that the Honda Shadow 750s are nice bikes with a fairly good price.
This is a cruiser rather than a sports bike.
Moto Guzzi are not too common at least where I am. Yamaha, Honda and
Kawasaki and Suzuki all have fans and a good selection of satisfied owners.
The new Bolt might be worth looking at.
Remember ride your own ride. good luck with it

I just noted down these recommendations.

I'm not a motorcycle enthusiast but my sister. She has always dreamed on having one since she was a young teenager and expecting to fulfill this year sometime next year.

The issue with a sport bike is that it gets expensive when they go down. Even a simple drop in a parking lot. I'm talking a few hundred to a couple of thousand. With a naked bike you will have less to break.

Find something that fits you well and take a Motorcycle Safety Course. And don't forget you safety gear.

Are you looking at new or used?

    James
