In the movie The Pursuit Of Happyness, I think Will Smith's job was a stockbroker. And he earned quite well from it too. So I guess hiring one would be expensive. I only tried investing in HYIP sites, and it's not stable.

I don't think it would be really expensive. Some might need you to invest a set amount to work with you which might be the challenging part.

As far as watching the stock goes. Unless your day trading, you shouldn't have to watch it that closely. You would keep an eye on news but if your buying a stock for the long term then you know you will see ups and downs during that time.

If your buying a stock to make a quick profit then you will be looking at ones that are going to have a lot of movement and you will have to be ready to make your move quick. You can also set your account to sell at a certain point as well.

I played with some penny stocks before. Those can move big time. And not always in the direction you want it to go in. You have to be careful with it. I had a chance to make some decent profit but didn't put enough money into the stock. I didn't want to start off too crazy. And you need to make enough to cover the cost of buying and selling the stock. I think the one I used charged $20 so if you didn't have a lot of money in it then you needed a big jump in stock price to be able to get out with profit.

Well maybe it's expensive when you don't have spare cash, lol. How much is the minimum amount to invest in the stock market?

Well you would need money to invest for them to charge. I think it might be a percentage. I have money invested at work. So that is an account managed. You basicly pick the level of risk you are comfortable with and they invest your money.

Or you go with an online account and do it yourself. The only cost to that is the fee to buy and sell the stock. I paid $20 to buy and $20 to sell. Itrade charges $4.99 if you make 150+ trades a quarter. That would be 2.5 trades a day on average. It can be done but if your not a day trader you should be keeping the stock for 2 days from what I remember. That means you would have to own more then a few stocks and moving them often. $9.99 if your doing 30+ trades a quarter. $24.99 if your doing less. If you have $50000 invested then you get the $9.99 rate at least.

When I had my account I think I only put in a couple hundred dollars. The big thing is you have to expect the stock to reach a price high enough to cover the cost to buy and sell. For me that was $40 total. So if I had $100 invested in a stock I would have to see a 40% jump just to break even. So you have to look at that before buying. You can put in a invest a small amount if you want, you just need to be able to get it back out at some point.

My thing is, only invest what you can afford to lose.

I am thinking that it is expensive too. James may be able to answer that question because I wasn't aware that someone professional could handle it for you.

That is what a stock broker does. They buy stocks for people for a fee or commission.

Thanks James, I didn't know this could be done online too. For the little I invest, it would be worth hiring someone though.

I think that the bank can make a similar service to that made by the stock broker, they have an investment portfolio with the different risks and interests and we can choose what we prefer.

I tried this once because a friend of mine told me that it’s a good way of investing your own money and make it grow. Well, after I experienced the ups and down of the stock market, which really drove me nuts, I just quit. I don’t have the emotional capacity to endure watching your money just vanish in seconds. It was a learning experience though. For those of you who are actually thinking about this, you should think numerous times and consult a financial expert. It’s not for the faint of heart.

You can find websites that let you invest in real stocks with play money. So basically you get to see what it is like investing in stocks.

You are so right JaSanchez. It became more of a burden to me than a job or something fun to do. In think it would be more suitable for someone who is willing to spend all day at it, learn everything there is to know about it and invest a whole lot too.

I'm planning on making my initial investment in the next few months. Though I'm a little bit weary about the risks, some say that you should be ready to part ways with your money and should not put your life savings here. And very important is patience, you should be willing to wait for a minimum of 5 years so you could at least see your investment grow and at the same time, eliminate or reduce some of the risks associated with investing in the stock market.
