Traded in the Low Rider for a station wagon

I have been driving an economical little Chevy Cavalier Sport , and besides already being almost on the ground, some previous owner had also lowered that little car even more. I could barely make it over the speed bumps in the parking lots, and usually drove around them whenever possible, even if it meant taking the tour of the parking lot, so to speak.
And getting in and out of it.... we don't even want to talk about THAT part ! Suffice to say, my daughter rolls around laughing when she watches me struggling to get this old body out of the door.

Anyway, I traded to to a couple that wanted an economy car, for their 2000 Taurus station wagon. I can easily get in and out, and the seat raises and lowers, so it is much more comfortable. I think this will make a lot better,vehicle for me. I don't drive a long ways anymore, so even though it uses more gas , overall, it should be worth it.

 

Well, I am still driving that old Ford Taurus wagon, and have not had a bit of trouble with it, even though is has close to 200,000 miles on it. All we have done is the regular maintainence, like checking oil and water, etc., and getting the oil changed regularly. For a larger vehicle, it is also remarkably good on gas usage. I get well over 25 mpg on the highway, and 18-19 in town driving, which is mostly what I am doing.
We have been working on the house, and my hubby has built a wheelchair ramp on the front, instead of the steep steps that we had before; so the station-wagon has also had to double as our lumber hauler. He got a bunch of tie-down straps at harbor Freight (love that store!), and when we go to Lowe's (love that store even more !), he puts the shorter lumber in the tailgate, and ties the longer pieces, and things like plywood, on the racks on the top.
Sometimes that poor old wagon is really loaded down, and I can feel it sitting on the springs as I am driving back home with that heavy lumber or cement mix. (Of course, I usually have some on-sale plants in the back as well, but they are not what weights us down).
While it would seem to be a lot more practical sometimes for us to have a pickup, the station wagon is actually pretty versatile, and is an overall good choice for us.

 

It truly is amazing all of the things that a station wagon is useful for. Even though I often wish that I still had my little pickup, and it would have been a better choice to haul the lumber with, the station is a better all-around choice.
We use it to haul everything in, but it also can fit a lot of people when I might need to take other passengers in the car to go somewhere; and the back opens to safely haul groceries in, and is easier to get them in and out than either a car or pickup would be.
The wagon does about anything that a minivan would do, as well; but is a smaller vehicle to drive and park. So, overall, it is very versatile, and an excellent choice for me.
