This monarch of Brunei, also known as the Sultan of Brunei, is one of the world's richest people. He's also known for his expensive car collection. It's estimated at 5 billion dollars. It's really ridiculous the amount of cars this man has. Do you think it's really necessary to have this many cars? Not that the cars are bad looking, but still does he really drive all these cars or are they just for show?

Rich people compete themselves in buying luxury cars to show off their pride. Its an usual thing and it may be good for car manufactures.

reply: These people have nothing better to spend their money on. God forbid they would rather help others with that money. The problem with having that many cars is that you could only drive one car at a time. It would be like owning fifty houses across the U.S. in which you could only live in one of them at a time.

There are plenty of rich people that help people and spend a lot on themselves. They earn its up to them on how they spend it. Cars are like art to some people. I see nothing wrong with it.

True, he does have a lot of really unique cars. Most of them are custom made just for him. The designs of some of his cars are pretty nice.

If I had that kind of money, I would definitely start up my own car and bike collection. I would take pride in my collection and would want everyone to see it. Don't worry, I'd still donate to charities (definitely automotive based charities) and do normal people stuff if I was rich. :woot:

Necessary? Hell no. But hey, it's his money, his hobby, his passion, so yeah, more power to him.

I'm a car nut just like everyone else here, but to be honest, even if I had 100 billion available, I doubt I'd buy 7000 cars. 10? Definitely. 50? Probably. 100? Hmm, not sure actually. 7000? What the hell man. If he drives one car a day, he'd have to drive for almost 20 years to drive em all. How can you say you really love a car when you drive it once every 20 years?

He ha more then on of many models so he wouldn't need to drive them all. I'm sure they are in more then one location. I don't think I would have 7000 but I would have a lot. I would want boats as well.

So that is the number for the Sultan. How many cars and bikes does
    Mr. Leno have?
I don't know. I guess I would be more likely to spend on vehicles than
to buy fine art. I guess that is why I am here. More into Chargers and
    Jeeps than painting and sculpture.

Wiki says he has 190 vehicles. 90 are motorcycles. That isn't a bad size for a collection.

Seems like the sultan is crazy about cars. I really don't see nothing wrong with that too, as long as you have the money then you can collect anything and everything that you want, even if it adds up to a very excessive amount. I'm sure those 7,000 cars won't go to waste when he dies, since it will be passed on to his wives/harems, children, grandchildren, and other immediate relatives.

I think that's insane, you don't need that many cars. Just give me one or two cars and I will be happy.
But I guess that guy can do whatever he wants.

Jesus. He puts Jay Leno's collection to shame. I can't say that if I had money like him I wouldn't do the same. I doubt he even drives 10% of those cars. It's a shame. Cars are meant to be driven, not just looked at.:(

It isn't the large amount of cars, it's that there is no possible way that he drives any of them regularly. I bet very few of the cars in that collection have seen more than 500 miles. Shame, some great cars in there.

He would need one large staff to move them all should there be an emergency! I just think it is his money and if he wants to buy cars, why not?

The man's the absolute ruler of one of the wealthiest nations on the planet; with as much gas and oil money as that country has, I'd almost be surprised if there weren't a lot of cars to go with it. I can't say I'd do the same, but it's pretty clear that he knows what he likes, and he's not ashamed to get it.

Lets be honest here people....having more than 3 cars is way too much. I dont think that there are that many places you could travels to with all those cars. I love being able to look after one or two cars and also the bonding that you get with the vehicle and so in my opinion i think the monarch has way too many vehicles.

I think the sultan believes that we only get to live once, so if he can afford to buy all those cars then why not right? I think it's much better that way than just stocking up all his money in a bank.

I've seen this movie before. Buy a fleet of expensive cars with your money. Then when it turns out, they're repossessed, sold or auctioned off, or lost in a divorce settlement. These folks never learn. I guess for a sultan it might work considering money is different in that country. But in America, these sorts of spending sprees usually end in disaster.

Like I said earlier I wouldn't own that many but I would own way more then 3. 3 is too low. If your a couple then you normally need two daily drivers, then lets say you have only sunny day off car and then a motorcycle. That is 4 right there. Then if you had a atv or a 4X4 Jeep or truck. Maybe even a camper and an older 1 ton to haul it if it is a 5th wheeler. So it is easy to get up to 5 or 6 without going crazy.
