Howdy all. Over the years, I have used STP's fuel infector cleaner. One of the vehicles is about due for a treatment and I thought I'd asks if anyone has an alternative they'd recommend. Thanks for any info. :)

I've only used STP myself. Do you find that they actually work though? I don't really notice any difference.

I think out of all I have bought, STP is the one I used the most. I can't remember if u tried Lucas Oil's injector cleaner or not. I'm thinking of using that one next time.

I have seen the Lucas Oil stuff at my mechanic's shop, but haven't tried it yet. I might give that one a whirl next time around.

I have not tried the Lucas fuel injector cleaner, but I have used their products for oil treatment, and also for transmissions. I really like the Lucas brand, and think that they do help, especially if you are driving an older vehicle, like I am always driving.
We moved from Idaho to Alabama using an old Dodge Motorhome from the 1970s, and before leaving, had the complete oil change and a couple quarts of Lucas in the engine oil, and some in the transmission. That old beast drove all the way out here with no problems at all, and it proved to be a good way for us to move and bring the little dogs along.
I have found that in the winter it is a good practice to add fuel cleaner every few times you add gas, and it will not have any trouble running well even with the cold weather. Another thing that really helps, is to keep the gas tank over 3/4 full, and that pretty much stops condensation in the tank.

Kind of a silly question but what is the biggest benefit of using fuel injector cleaner?

If your injectors are dirty they won't spray as much fuel as needed an can cause the engine to perform poorly.

I'm also a bit impartial to STP. I also sometimes use the "jet fuel" to bump up the octane a point or two before I hit the track since my car can take advantage of the higher octane.

I'm a bit more wary of using the cleaners these days since I've heard horror stories from people whose "gunk" in their engines was actually helping to seal things like their piston rings. Once the cleaner went in, it cleared out this helpful gunk and they started having problems like oil consumption. All these cars had over 300k kms on them so I'm assuming that played a factor too.

Oh ok, makes sense I guess I should really clean them at some point, I don't like poor performance :p
