Did anyone watch UFC 165 last night?

UFC 165 took place last night from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario Canada.

The main event saw Jones Jones defend his Light Heavyweight title against Swedish up and comer Alexander Gustafsson. The fight was absolutely fantastic. Both fighters went at it for the full five rounds and gave everything they had. For the first three rounds, the Swedish challenger brought the fight to the champ. Outstriking Jones, cutting him above the right eye and even took him down as well.
But alas, Gustafsson started to fade in the championship rounds especially after he took a brutal spinning elbow from the champ in the 4th that almost finished him.

It was definitely a fight of year candidate and even if you're not a MMA fan, I would recommend checking it out.

 

Hell yeah, I saw it. There were a few really good prelim fights, but the beginning of the main card was disappointing. Seeing Carmont boringly outgrapple Philippou like that pissed me off. But the co-main was really good, and the main event was awesome. That was a gladiator fight if there ever was one. It's right up there with Hendo-Shogun, Korean Zombie-Garcia, and others.

 

Pretty good contest from the sounds of it. According to the report Bones Jones had no easy victory this time. A serious challenge to a guy who has recently been mentioned as 'the best ever.' Is he one of the best ever? Maybe?

He definitely is. But no one was expecting for Gustafsson to completely nullify Jones's grappling, and for Gustafsson himself to take down Jones. That, and Gustafsson used his range perfectly in the striking.

 

If only he had a bit more gas in the tank in the 4th and 5th rounds and didn't get hit with that nasty spinning elbow the fight could've been his. I predict a rematch will happen though. They'll make too much money not to do it.

 

Yeah. Even with that spinning elbow though, the fight could've gone either way. Jones had to be carried out by his coaches, and he looked considerably worse in the face than Gustafsson did shortly after.



If Jones beats Glover, and Gustafsson gets one more win, there will almost definitely be a rematch.

 

Interesting photo. That sounds like a real good battle. Rematch might be something.
