    This tip is NOT SAFE!

I always kept a couple of wire coat hangers and batter jumpers with me when I had old junker cars that often broke down. If you have an emergency situation you can always hook up the cables to the battery and attach one lead to a ground. The other hook to a coat hanger and you can use it as a spot welder. Again I will say that this is not a safe tip...but sometimes it can come in handy.

Haha, that sounds pretty interesting, but I guess that I wont try it. So you ever had to use it, because you kept it with you?

Yes, more than one time. Back when I was in my teens I would buy anything that even looked like it would run. And most of them had parts literally hanging in the engine compartment with bailing wire! My father was actually the person who taught me the trick!

I hope to never be in a situation where my car is so broken down that it needs a spot weld.

Fortunately those days are long gone! And way before the used cars had to be safety checked! I remember one time I had bought an old Studebaker and there was about 15 inches of play in the steering wheel. That was a pain in the butt! Here is an old commercial for those of you who never heard of them!

Good to know, but it'd be even better if I can keep it being useless knowledge. Hopefully it will always be useless to me, because I don't want to have to do that. But, its always nice to know these things, in case you are in a bind.

I fully understand and agree with what you are saying! Sometimes it is good to know but not always best to utilize little things like that!

This looks like a great tip for those stuck in the middle of nowhere situations. I wonder how horror flicks would look like if this was common knowledge. haha

This is good to know, however I agree that it can be pretty dangerous but if desperate measures come about then this is a valuable option.

Yeah, it could be dangerous but it is good knowledge for an emergency. Not sure if a motorcycle would provide enough amps.

What an interesting little tidbit. Makes me want to go out and give it a try, but not in the welding mood.

As to not having a car that could be in such shape, I have been collecting cars since I was a teen. My family would jump in the car to go look at some gem ( a Ranchero, an old Tbird or Camaro) and even if it was two states away, we somehow split up and drove the thing back home. Guess its sort of a Midwest thing to go car hunting....but many a time you never knew what you were getting into when you bought the "only driven to church on Sunday" and you get 100 miles down the road and the parts start flying off! AHHHH those were the days.

Interesting information. I've never heard this one before but I guess you learn something new everyday.

Sounds interesting but I would be to nervous to try it. I will just call AAA for help. But I do know that when people have junk cars they do all kinds of boot-leg things to it and it do work.

You learn something new every day. I've never even heard of that. I've never been in a position where that would have come in handy, but it's still a neat trick.
