Do you think there's any situation where it's acceptable to over-take by the right side? I had this ridiculous experience last weekend when I went to Portugal where there was jams of kilometers on the highways. Everyone wanted to go faster, so literally everyone was on the left side, some of them with HUGE distances from the cars in front, while the traffic was going at 5-10mph only. The right side was empty, totally, so me and some others slowly over-took by the right side, always careful if someone decides to go back. The right lane was going faster anyway, I had cars over-taking me all the time.

Well, in a country like Portugal where it's more crowded and busy then I guess it's fine to do that, the police there should see that daily so I guess they wouldn't have a problem with doing that.

I think the law says it's wrong. I think it's also wrong for those cars to have been on that side that long. By the way, it also depends on the country, for example, in my country we're supposed to keep left, so overtaking is on the right side.

It does sound like it could be wrong but then again it may depend on the country and it's traffic rules. In my country, we drive on the left so we overtake on the right and still crazy drivers who are hasty will try to overtake on the left, if there is a soft shoulder.

By the law it's wrong and I'm actually talking about France. :) I mean technically, do -YOU- think it's wrong in the situation I meantioned? (At France you're supposed to stay right and over-take on left.)
