It just occurred to me that I haven't heard any of you mention either one of these games. I would think this would almost be essential for you to play. Unless you just don't play video games.

I am currently in love with Forza 4 as it is actually one of my favorite games for the XBox. I love the races, buying the cars, and making the vinyls for them. Later this year, they will be coming out with Forza Horizon which isn't the exact same, but somewhere in the Forza family, so that should be interesting.

Am I the only one playing these games?

I haven't played Forza 4. I don't have an XBox. My brother has one but when I'm at his place I don't play his much. When we do its sports games. He is big into playing Hockey and Football.

I still have my PS2. Haven't bought a PS3 yet. I will at some point unless they release the new one before I do that. But my father in law has one and a steering wheel. I have played Grand Turismo 5 more then a few times. When he was away on vacation last year I would go out and feed the cat. Each time I would play for a bit. My goal was to earn enough money for him to buy the indy car when he came home. I did it. It was tough but I did it by they time he got home or just after. The car is fast.

Another car we had that is crazy is the Red Bull one I believe. I haven't played the game in months. I will have to play it next time I'm out there now that you mention it.

When I lived at my in laws house I used to play different games against in father in law. We drilled a hole in the floor of my wifes room (girlfriend at the time) and ran a network cable down to his computer so we could set up a lan since the modems of the time were not the fastest. One game we played a lot was Viper Racing which was good and one that I never did beat. It had this one track with some hills and corners that I was having a hard time mastering in one direction which would hurt my season.

Our favorite game of all was Motor City Online. This is still my all time favorite automotive game. #1. Its the game I miss the most out of any game. One reason is because EA killed the game and because it was played online, you couldn't play it even as a single player. It was a sad time for a lot of MCO fans. That has been 15 year or more and I still can't stop thinking about that game. Still have the box to it.

I use to love playing my racing game. I will get back into it once I get a new system. I'm also big into Boxing games. Fight Night being at the top of that list.

Well, it looks like they will be releasing a newer, slimmer PS3, but I'd personally wait until I was absolutely sure that they aren't releasing the PS4 in 2013.

I'm sorry that you lost your car games. There was a lot of love in that post.

LOL. There was/is a lot of love for that game. You should have read the posts on it. One group starting working on a game just like it on their own a few years ago. I'm not sure how well that went. I watched some videos but they were not finished it yet.

The graphics are not up to todays games but man was this a fun game. You could race for pinks. You could race on a track, street race or drag strip. You build your car up from parts. You could have many different combinations. The game was great. I wish EA would release another one.

It does look fun, but a lot of the games out right now look like they've lifted quite a bit from it and maybe that is why they haven't made a new one. Burnout Paradise, Need for Speed, etc. have a lot of those elements.

Burnout I think I played but it was different. I didn't get into it too much so I might have miss a few things. Need for Speed might have been the closes and its a game I love but it doesn't compare.

With MCO you could buy parts from the parts counter or you could buy them used. Some parts had a life span and would wear out so they had to be replaced. You could by more carbs, heads, cams and so on. Games have had those features but not to the same detail. The arcade gamer wouldn't like that much detail. The sim fans might. I had a car that I thought was good enough to race some cars and win me some more money so I could upgrade it more. I won a couple of races but lost many more. The suspension wasn't up to the task on the street races and drag racing was hit or miss. So I had to stop killing the bank and wait for more pay. You would earn a pay every so often.

Some made money by setting up cars for others. Need for Speed comes close but they went more arcade with the upgrades.

Also as you could see in the clip, they had old muscle and classic cars. That something else missing from the other games.

Okay, the closest that comes to MCO for you would be Forza 4. You can buy parts for the cars, not used, but you can spruce up the car and tune it to your specifications.

Well, I've never gone into any of the games to have the feel for driving or Madden games looking for a football experience. I'm very comfortable and aware that they are video games. I don't know how much "realism" people expect from these games. They aren't real. o_O

But that is racing. There have been other driving games that had other things you could do in them like Midtown Madness and Interstate 76'.

As far as the games being real, have you ever tried using a steering wheel? With that mounted to a desk it can give you a good feel. Its still a game but its much better then a basic controller. I have owned two or three different wheels. When they came out with force feed back wheels it was a nice upgrade. With some you will feel when the front sleeps which is really cool.

Also having the gas pedal and brake it can allow you to do a bit more in the game.

    Simulate it how?

For me the good ones getting really good and have a lot of real driving physics or close to real. For me it makes the game fun because it makes it a bit harder. It can piss me off at times but excite me at the same time.

In Forza 4, when your buying parts, do you know how much more power it will give you or how much it will improve your handling? A lot of games will allow you to buy parts and if you buy this one you will have your power at 60%, the other part will be 65%. One might be better at top speed and one might be acceleration. Most games will tell you that.

In MCO you would buy a larger carb because you would expect more power. Well that would happen to a point but if you went to crazy on a carb but had a pretty much stock engine then they could lose power. It kinda took some trial and error at first. Thats what made it exciting for me. You also have different level of tires and transmissions and it went on and on. I know some would hate to have a game that had that much detail because it made it a bit harder.

If Forza 4 is on that level that it would almost make me want an Xbox. And also having the old cars was huge. I love the high performance cars and exotics but the old cars just had something different.

When you started MCO you had limited cash and had to buy a rusted junker from the yard. I guess Gran Turismo was close. You didn't have much and had to buy a cheap car. I bought a 90's Prelude to start that game at one point. It was one of the earlier versions.

Gran Turismo has always been a favorite of mine. I have heard great things about Forza. I might have to give it a try sometime.

I find that no video game has ever matched what it feels like to really race a car. Recreating that RUSH or feeling of power just isn't going to happen, but the least they could do is get the physics to be a bit more cohesive. It's never the same. Maybe that can be said about most video games, but there are games like FIFA that have amazing touch response and balance. Why can't car games get the same attention?

I was at my in laws tonight and I had a chance to play GT5 for the first time in a very long time. Man I miss playing that game. Played a few games and did ok. Another thing I like doing in that game is setting up a B Spec race and trying to tune a car to get my racer to the top of the podium. You watch him race and and look for problems in the car or his driving style and try to adjust the car for that.

I believe that you can test things out with your new parts before you put it out on a track. The other thing about it is that as you gain, I forget right now after reading that silliness, but you can earn discounts through different manufacturers for their parts. Affinity! If you know someone with an XBox, but they don't have the game, download the demo.

But, you tune your cars and build them up, just like you would in MCO.

My brother has one but he will be moving away this week or next for work so I won't get a chance to use it. I think my friends son might have one so I could ask him.

The difference with MCO and GT5 is that in GT5 you upgrade your motor and you will go faster. Upgrade with the wrong combo of parts in MCO and you might hurt your performance. Buy the big bad boy carb that is hard to find and install it before you need it and you can lose power. That was another thing. Some things are hard to find (some of the best parts) and the more basic ones can be picked up anytime.

Like I said before some would hate that because you might spend the money and not get anything out of it right then. I like the challenge.

That being said, I had fun playing a racing game again. I would like to weld together a frame and a seat to mount the steering wheel and pedals too. :D
