Well I have supposed hi speed internet (cable - and I was so happy years back
to dump the old dial up system) and your numbers killed me internet speedwise.
I got a below average rating on the internet comparison. OH well.
There are two grades above mine that I could move to but well each move
also ups the bill a bit.

I do not have the greatest internet service available but it is one that I can afford. My test results sucked in relationship to yours. ping: 89 ms, download:2.92 mbps and upload, 0.84! Good thing I am retired and have plenty of time! And my pc is about six years old so I am sure that that may be a factor as well!

I am using 2 Mbps Home-based Internet Connection. This Speedtest.net requires the capability of Flash Player and Java. So i decide to check my Internet speed without the need of Flash and Java. I got a site Scanmyspeed.com which displays my results with Uploading speed of 0.58 Mbps and Downloading speed of 1.76 Mbps.

Mine varies daily anywhere from 16-25 mbps. I notice when I plug in an ethernet cable to my macbook, I get around 30.

I used to have really great speed with cable, but when I moved they didn't have as good of an option. So here is what I have now. James I am jealous of your speed.

Our broadband connection is not up to par! Especially on peak hours! But I usually get a download speed of up to 2 mbps, but only if it's around 3 am in the morning!

Yeah its pretty good. My old connection was ok then it seemed to slow down. I had a chance to switch providers and I'm happy I did. I just need to upgrade my old computers and things will be good.

    Welcome to Gearhead Central sadunicorn!

If I remember correctly, the high ping time will be a big problem in online gaming but other then that it shouldn't be a big issue.

I don't even know what a ping is (exception of ping pong). Is that the speed of a message being sent?

I found some info that explains it better then I will.

"Answer: A ping test determines whether your computer can communicate with another computer over the network. Then, if network communication is established, ping tests also determine the connection latency (technical term for delay) between the two computers."

"The results of a ping test vary depending on the quality of the Internet / network connection. A good broadband Internet connection (wired or wireless) typically results in ping test latency of less than 100 ms, often less than 30 ms. A satellite Internet connection normally suffers from latency above 500 ms."

Thanks! For my old laptop and the system here I am not as fast as my cable connection in Las Vegas, but it is ok. There are no alternatives to using a different company as we only have one to my knowledge. Cost about US$30 a month and they are rarely down.
