Yes it's possible to install both OSs at the same time. If you have windows all you have to do is download the ubuntu iso file and burn it on a disc and run it during startup and it will guide you through the whole process. Ubuntu is a linux distro (OS) which is quite user friendly. It looks like windows and you don't have to know anything special to operate it.

I see. Well as long as it can run VLC media player and Chrome then I'd probably give it a try given the chance. So you're actually using Linux now or you're using Windows?

I don't use it, I'll just stick to my Windows 7. I haven't really thought of switching my OS to something like Linux or Fedora, just didn't really see the need. (Unless I was some sort of top of the line hacker that needed every thing in his PC covered.)

What reason would someone have for using Ubuntu when they are already running windows? I researched it a couple of years ago but can't remember now. I was going to put it on an old computer that I didn't feel could handle a newer version of Windows. But didn't bother doing anything with that computer.

mostly it's usually to try out new operating systems. However if you don't want to dual boot you can install virtualbox and install the new OS within the current OS. The disadvantage with this is that you might not be able to use your computers hardware with the new OS.

Ubuntu is very good , It's free , and for a daily user who just browse the web and watch movies or listen ot music is more than enough but if you are a power user , let's say a civil engineer (in my case) you are stuck with windows . I strongly reccomend Ubuntu .

Yeah, Ubuntu is another one of my favourites. Low spec laptops can easily run Ubuntu, it actually speeds them up and makes them much faster since Ubuntu is a less demanding OS in terms of power, RAM and CPU usage, etc.

And there's no need for an antivirus... Linux is a great OS for the daily user and now steam has a great collection of games for linux, what more can you want.
