When I go on road trips with my husband everything always turn out right but with the kids it's quite the opposite. We have to make several stops along the way for them to use the restroom and they constantly fight about everything. It got to the point where we had to threaten to stop taking them on trips because they were so loud when they argue. They are much older now and things aren't perfect but it's much better when we go out.

We don't have kids..yet, so road trips are pretty enjoyable for and the misses right now. Before we had an RV I think the worst part was bathroom stops and coffee but that's not an issue anymore, thank God. Driving late at night when I'm going on 24 hours of being up is really harder during the day. Honestly, I find night driving far less stressful, depending on where we're going. I guess the most stressful of long roads out in the country, like when we're on the way to the beach, is having to worry about hitting a bear. We had that happen once a few years ago but thankfully there wasn't a whole lot of damage. It ran away but left some claw marks on the side of the passenger door.

Good for you Sleipnir, you have a RV. I would like to own one someday and just take long trips along with my husband. Not having to stop at every restroom would certainly make the trip more enjoyable and relaxing.

I think the worst thing about a road trip is driving straight through and trying to sleep in the car why the other person drives. I will be 40 years old in 4 months, I can honestly say I am done driving straight through. I will get there when I get there lol. :D

The worst thing is the gas consumption! Well, it really does depend on how far you're going. If you're going too far, then you have to pay a lot of money for all that traveling gas. But other than that, I don't realyl see any bad things about road trips. As long as I get a good view from it, then I'm satisfied!

I couldn't agree anymore. Road trips are great and a lot of fun in my opinion, but they are just horrible when you're tired. It makes the drive seem like its three times as long. I guess that's what coffee is for though.. ;)

I agree with you 100%! I went across the state with my aunt, uncle, and her four young children and it was misery! I finally said enough was enough and stopped at the nearest Best Buy. Ten minutes later I had some excellent noise canceling earphones that made the the trip bearable even though I was out of pocket $45. The only thing my earphones didn't fix was the spilled drinks that always hit me and the eight year old behind me that loved to kick my seat.

The bad thing that I can think about is driving distances because you start to get cramped up. And now because of gas prices your gas tank won't get you as far as it used to.

If I'm not driving, I try my best to sleep. Otherwise, I get cramped up quite quickly.

I really enjoy road trips. You get to spend time with your family and you also get to see new places. There are a few things that I don't like about road trips though. The thing I hate most is the long and tiring drive. I hate being cooped up in tight places, so long drives in a car can get me a little annoyed.

I enjoy a good road trip, but have been snakebitten by not planning a good route. Ultimately I would end up on a long stretch of boring road to get to somewhere that is worth checking out. I made that mistake the first couple of times and have since really done my homework on trips. Finding posts on forums seems like the best way to discover good routes to take that are scenic, adventurous and even fun.

For me its being in the car, and not being able to stretch out, move around and stuff like that.

The worst part about road trips it the drive when all you see is nothing. Also you end up looking at the road signs to see how many miles you have left. It seems like you will never get there.

Yes. Part of New Brunswick and Maine are like that. It is brutal.

I think the number one worst thing for me is not being able to stretch, especially if you are in the back seat. That's the worst feeling to have your legs cramped up for hours on end. The other thing is the fuel, but that honestly isn't all that bad. I've never had a problem with the bathroom, I can always wait until a rest stop.

On a trip to Florida in 2003 I had a pain in my knee. I shared driving with my father in law. That was the first time he let anyone do any driving. The left knee is the one with the issue. I wasn't bad when driving but it was a pain while I was in the back. We rented a van (or they did) and I had to sit in the passenger side center row. That way I could put my left leg up on a bag going down between the two front seats. It drove me nuts. I don't think it hurt on the trip back. Just on the way down.

That sounds like it sucked. Would sitting in the passenger seat be just as bad/good for your leg in that situation? They have the same curves and spacing usually as the driver's side.
